Stevens Point– The Merrill Bluejays hung tough with SPASH in the first half of their Wisconsin Valley Conference game on Monday.  The game was tied 27-27 going into halftime.

However, SPASH clamped down on defense in the second half, allowing Merrill just 14 points and came away with a 64-41 victory.

The win gives SPASH the Wisconsin Valley Conference title outright.

Merrill was led by Courtney Krueger, who scored 12 points.

“I am really proud of the girls for winning the conference title,” said SPASH coach Kraig Terpstra. “We have played very good basketball in conference games. Even though it is back to back we have 9 new players on the roster.”

SPASH is now 16-5 on the season and 11-0 in the Valley.  The Panthers will conclude regular season play on Thursday when they welcome Wausau West to the SPASH Fieldhouse.
