Wausau– The Newman Cardinals were unable to come up with a win on Friday as Prentice got the best of them, 84-69.
Newman struggled from the floor hitting just 18 of 59 shots (30%). Prentice shot at a 50% clip.
Prentice also out-rebounded Newman 37-28.
One bright spot for Newman was Charlie McCarty, who led the Cardinals with 22 points.
Ben Leischer added 16 points and Cade Kimball poured in 12.
“We have to give Prentice credit tonight, they made the hustle plays and rebounded the ball better than we did. They deserved to win the game,” said Newman coach Dan Garrett. “To win games in this conference it’s important to make sure you do the little things and make those effort plays to win games. It was a very physical game and we didn’t shy away from that, so I was pleased with my team’s effort tonight. We learned what it takes to win games like this going forward. An experience like this can only make us better in games down the road.”
