CWS Student-Athlete Spotlight: Spencer/Columbus’ Jarred Mandel

Marshfield— For Spencer/Columbus multi-sport athlete Jared Mandel, football is a chance to play for the combined Spencer and Marshfield Columbus football team while also excelling in basketball and baseball for Columbus Catholic the other two sports seasons. It is football, however, where Mandel has made a huge mark, as quarterback for the Rockets.

This season, Mandel has the Rockets’ high powered offense running on all cylinders, and is the quarterback of the defense, from his free safety spot.

Mandel is a difficult guy to track down, but we caught up with the senior with our world-famous interview, ‘Pancakes or Waffles?’

CWS: What classes are you taking this year?

Mandel: Trigonometry, Physics, Government, Lit/Comp IV, Theology, Band, Physical Education.

CWS: What is your favorite class?

 Mandel: Physical Education.

CWS: What are your hobbies?

Mandel: Video games, watching sports, hanging out with friends.

CWS: Who is/was your favorite teacher?

Mandel: Mr. Krasselt.

CWS: What is the most unusual food you have eaten?

Mandel: Octopus… not a fan..

CWS: What is your favorite music to listen to?

Mandel: Country during the summer; Otherwise rap.

CWS: What are your plans after high school?

Mandel: Attend college (undecided on where) and major in business management.

CWS: If they made a movie about you, and your life, what would it be called?

Mandel: The Happy ‘Man’del.

CWS: What other sports do you play?

Mandel: Basketball and baseball.

CWS: Which teammate would you not want to be stranded with on a deserted island?

Mandel: Logan Zschernitz.

CWS: What is your most memorable moment as an athlete?

Mandel: Going to state in football my freshman year.

CWS: Who is your favorite athlete?

Mandel: Marcus Mariota.

CWS: What do you enjoy most about playing home games?

Mandel:We have a lot of fans regardless of the location of the game (best fans out there) so I like not having to ride a bus.

CWS: What’s the best thing about being a student-athlete at for Columbus Catholic and Spencer High Schools??

Mandel: Being apart of the SC Family and it’s very tight knit community so you really get to know everyone.

CWS: What words of wisdom can you give to other student-athletes?

Mandel: Don’t get behind on schoolwork and have as much fun as possible because it flies by.

CWS: Lastly, pancakes or waffles?

Mandel: Pancakes… gotta be chocolate chip though.
