Minocqua– The D.C. Everest girls basketball team picked up its first win of the season on Thursday evening as they toppled Lakeland by the final score of 64-45.

Everest got a balanced attack. Alexis Wojnowiak led the way with 17 points. Meghan Heil scored 16 points, Malorie Schmoll added 13 and Zoey Minnihan contributed 11.

The Evergreens were up 13 points at halftime and went on a 15-3 run to open the second half and effectively put the game away.

“We took a couple of tough losses down in Milwaukee over Thanksgiving,” said Everest coach Matt Bullis. “It really helped us in our preparation this week.  We had a good week of practice and really came ready to play.  We just need to keep plugging along and getting better every day.”

Everest is now 1-3 and will take on Eau Claire North on December 7.
