Big second half propels Rapids past Merrill

Merrill–On Tuesday October 9th, the Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln Red Raiders faced off against the Merrill Blue Jays in Wisconsin Valley Conference action. In a game that featured typical cold weather and a rain soaked field, the Raiders were able to come away with a 6-2 victory.

The scoring got started for Wisconsin Rapids in the 14th minute when junior Oliver Hayes put one in after he was assisted by senior forward Spencer Sparks. The Raiders would make it 2-0 come the 20th minute when sophomore forward Kaden Kizewski scored and was assisted by sophomore midfielder Ian Pagel.

Merrill would get a goal back before halftime off of a breakaway to cut the lead in half come halftime when the score read 2-1 in favor of Wisconsin Rapids.

After halftime, the Raiders would start their scoring spree and would put the Blue Jays away early in the 2nd half. Once again Hayes would score his 2nd goal of the night early in the 2nd half to put the Raiders up 3-1. Assisting on the goal was Sparks. The Raiders would make the score 4-1 within the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half when sophomore forward Joey TerMaat would score his first goal of the night. Assisting on Termaat’s goal was senior defenseman Jared Winters.

The Raiders would make the score 5-1 midway through the 2nd half when junior midfielder Andrew Metcalf would put in a goal. Assisting on Metcalf’s goal was Winters. Rapids would finish their scoring on the night when they would get a late goal from senior defensemen Keegan Pulchinski to make the score 6-2.

The Raiders improved to 4-4-2 in conference play and will now travel to D.C. Everest come Thursday night for a 7:00 P.M. start time.
