Colby— A pair of 5-0 teams tied atop the Cloverbelt squared off, and for Colby and Spencer/Columbus, the game would serve as a litmus test, with just three regular season games left. It was the Rockets who proved to be dominant, picking up a 41-0 shutout win.
The Rockets took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter as Jarred Mandel had a pair of touchdown passes, the first to Carson Hildebrant for 30 yards. Mandel’s second toss to Austin Bacon had the Rockets’ offense rolling, and it looked like Spencer/Columbus was firing on all cylinders.
Mandel tossed two more touchdowns in the second quarter, finding two more receivers. Hayden Bauman and Eden Jacobson had receptions of 7 and 30 yards, respectively to give Spencer/Columbus a 27-0 halftime lead.
Mandel completed 13 of 23 passes for 223 yards, to go with his four touchdown strikes.
The Rockets added two more touchdowns in the third quarter, with Hildebrandt(15 yards) and Bacon(53 yards) pushing the margin to its final mark, 41-0.
Spencer/Columbus picked up 405 yards of total offense, limiting the Hornets to 169 yards.
“I am proud of our defense tonight. Our linebackers were stellar,” said Spencer/Columbus Head Coach Jason Gorst. “Carson Hildebrandt, Eden(Jacobson) and Hayden Bauman played very well. Ethan’s converge was great.”
Bauman led S/C with four receptions for 83 yards, and also had a pair of sacks for the Rockets.
