Wisconsin Rapids- A year ago, the Assumption football team was focusing on size and strength as their go to for the season.
After graduating a large senior class, the Royals are changing gears and looking to speed and athleticism as their bread and butter.
“We can sure tell who has been running and working in the off season,” Assumption coach Jeff Sullivan said. “The speed testing and the weight training tell who has been investing in the program already on the first day.”
With the graduation of so many key players, the Royals know they will be looking to plug a few holes across the field, but they also know they will be set in a few areas making the searching process much easier.
On the first day of practice, the Royals fielded fewer than 20 players, but for the coaches it’s a matter of quality instead of quantity.
“The guys know we have to make changes and we have to accept it,” Sullivan said. “We need some extra fire and passion for the year, and it begins today.”
