Antigo– The Rapids Rangers went 2-0 on Sunday as they defeated Menominee 12-2, then nipped Neenah 9-8 in walk off fashion in game two.
Rapids finished the Antigo weekend tournament with a sparkling 4-0 record.
In game one against Menominee, Rapids scored ten runs in the second inning.
The second inning attack was led by Jake Mancl, Donovan Brandl, Josh Zwicke, Cody Bredl, Jake Sullivan, and Jack Wenzel, each of whom had RBIs in the frame.
Wenzel was the winning pitcher for the Rangers. He surrendered two runs on four hits over five innings, striking out five.
Rapids tallied 11 hits on the day. Sullivan, Nate Jackan, and Brandl each had multiple hits. Brandl, Jackan, and Sullivan all had two hits.
In game two against Neenah, Jake Sullivan put on the Superman cape as he hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 8-8, then knocked another home run in the bottom of the ninth to walk off with the win.
This was an offensive showcase as Rapids collected 13 hits and Neenah had 16.
Nate Jackan pitched Rangers to victory. He went four and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs on five hits, striking out three and walking one. Jake Mancl threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Rapids tallied 13 hits on the day. Brandl, Sullivan, Jackan, and Nathan Krommenakker each had multiple hits for Post 9 Rangers 18U. Brandl led Post 9 with four hits in five at bats.
Rangers are 15-4 overall and play Monday night against Plover at at Witter.
