Rafters squash Bullfrogs and even series

Green Bay— After losing by seven to Green Bay at home last night, Wisconsin Rapids returned the favor at Joannes Stadium defeating the Bullfrogs by twelve runs in a 13-1 win. Jake Dunham (Northern Illinois) got the scoring started in the second with a double plating Mitch Mallek (St. Cloud State). The cranberry and gold resumed the scoring fiesta in the third. The Rafters scored five runs on two hits capped off by the first of two two-RBI singles from Payton Robertson (Lamar). The Bullfrogs scored their only run of the game the next half inning off an RBI triple from Riley Mihalik. Blaise Maris scored but the run was unearned due to an error.

Wisconsin Rapids struck again in the seventh with a four-run inning. Steven Rivas (Long Beach State) hit the first Rafters home run of 2018 to right field to score two. Then followed a two-run eighth featuring Robertson’s second two-RBI base hit of the afternoon. One more was tacked on in the ninth as Rivas scored off an RBI groundout from Caeden Harris (St. Cloud State).

Rafters pitching struck out nine Bullfrogs. Jake Cook (Birmingham Southern) earned his first win in his Rafters debut. Cook threw four innings, tallying up five in his first two innings of work. Kyle Hodgson (Framingham State) came in to throw five innings of scoreless relief. Hodgson allowed just three baserunners off two walks and a hit by pitch while fanning four. Hugh Chapman was given the loss, his first with Green Bay.

The Rafters continue the road trip tomorrow evening as they travel to Rockford, Illinois to face off against the Rockford Rivets. First pitch from Rivets Stadium is set for 6:35 PM.
