Everest wins 3-0, moves into first

Wausau — D.C. Everest got a hat trick from Maddie Simpson and moved into sole possession of first place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference with a 3-0 win at Wausau West Tuesday night.

Simpson scored the first of three second-half goals on an unassisted play in the 52nd, then followed up 25 minutes later with an assist from Elle Hersperger to make it 2-0.

In the 81st, she got another unassisted goal to wrap up the scoring.

Madisyn Irwin picked up two saves for Everest while Krista Koenig had 1. West’s Kayla Kovach had 20 saves for the Warriors.

With the win, Everest is now 3-0 in WVC play and has 9 points, moving into first place in the league after Stevens Point (2-0-1, 7 points) and Wisconsin Rapids (2-0-2, 8 points) tied 0-0 Tuesday.

West falls to 1-3 in the conference race and remains in 5th place in the seven-team WVC following a 1-1 tie between sixth-place Marshfield and seventh-place Merrill Tuesday.
