CWS Athlete of the Week: April 29- May 6

Wausau— Take a look at the CWS Athlete of the Week candidates and vote today!

Ben Veverka, Assumption– Veverka is currently ranked first in the state for WIAA Division 3 discus and in the top 5 for shot put. This week, he shattered Assumption High School’s 47-year old record with a discus throw of 175′ 4″.

Kayla Lass, SPASH– Lass brought the big lumber with her this season.  On Saturday, Lass hit a home run against Oak Creek, then followed that up with another home run against Westosha Central.  Lass drove in five on the day in two more wins for the undefeated Panthers.

Hailey Wilhorn, Rapids– Wilhorn had three hits, including a home run, and drove in two in Rapids’ 9-5 loss to Mosinee on Friday.

Amanda Klasinski, Pacelli– Klasinski had a banner day on May 1 as Pacelli clobbered Port Edwards 28-0.  Klasinski had two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in seven runs for the Cardinals.

Joe Aguilera, Abbotsford– Aguilera won the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash for the Falcons at their home invite.

Sydni Gburek, Mosinee– Gburek doubled and hit a home run, driving in four, in a 9-5 win over Wisconsin Rapids.  She also picked up the win in the circle.

Marissa Ellenbecker, Edgar– In Abbotsford, Ellenbecker broke the meet record in the 3200 meter run and also broke her own meet record in the 800 meter run.

Julianne Barkholz, Newman– Barkholz broke two meet records in Abbotsford, taking the top spot in the 200 meter dash and shattering the record in the 400 by over three seconds.

Kelly Nielsen, Greenwood– Neilson won three events: the 100 and 200 meter dash, and the triple jump at the Gilman Invite.

    Sydni puts her all into everything she does. Great at fast pitch, basketball and volleyball. Also has high scholastics. I think she will go far in her life endeavors.
