Greenwood— Two teams looking for their first win of the season battled in Cloverwood Conference action in a nail-biting, see-saw affair that included eight punts and six fumbles. Athens took an 8-0 second quarter lead, but the Bluejays found themselves trailiing Greenwood 12-8 as time wound down in the ballgame. Seth Coker connected with Jake Denzine for an eight yard touchdown with just eight seconds left to give Athens their first win of the season.
Klay Ellenbecker led Athens with 140 yards rushing on 17 carries and scored Athens’ first half touchdown, a ten yard run with just 37 seconds left in the half. Coupled with a safety to begin the second quarter, Athens held the lead until early in the fourth period, when Greenwood moved ahead 12-8, setting the stage for the Athens’ heroics at the end.
