CWS Athlete of the Week: April 30 – May 7

Wausau– Take a look at the CWS Athlete of the Week candidates and vote today!

Voting ends on Wednesday at approximately 5 p.m.

Zach Krings, Assumption– Krings hit the “shot heard round the Marawood” against Newman on May 4 as he blasted a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning to give the Royals a one-run victory.

Alex Bollmann, Newman– Bollmann was a force in Newman’s 10-11 loss to Assumption on May 4 as he hit a home run and a double to keep the Royals on their heels.

Haley Raflik, Pacelli– Raflik threw a shut out against Wittenberg-Birnamwood on May 4 and followed that up with a win in the circle against Mosinee on Saturday where she not only pitched well, but also drove in the winning runs for Pacelli at the plate.

Brianna Mancl, Rapids– Mancl had a nice performance against Wausau West on May 4 as she went 2-5 at the plate with a home run, double and five RBI.

Noah Zastrow, Spencer– Zastrow took home four first-place finishes at the Stratford Invitational: 110 hurdles (16.8), 300 hurdles (41.56), pole vault (12′) and long jump (19’4″).

Macey Wirkus, Edgar– Wirkus took top honors in the Stratford Invitational in the 100 meter dash (13.38), 300 meter hurdles (46.80), and triple jump (33’6.25″).  Wirkus also was on the Wildcats’ 4×400 relay team that took first place.

Courtney Milkowski, SPASH– Milkowski put on a show for SPASH girls soccer this week, netting a goal against Chippewa Falls as well as finding the back of the net twice against Wisconsin Valley Conference opponent Wausau West.  Milkowski also tallied an assist earlier in the week in a win against Wausau East.

Jenna Schober, Spencer– Shober was a catalyst in Spencer’s 14-1 win over Gilman as she went 3-3 at the plate and knocked in four runs.

Kiana Weiler, Stratford— Weiler was 3-3 with 5 RBI and was the winning pitcher as Stratford downed Auburndale 10-2.

    Pacelli/Haley Raflik – do not get the attention as much as the bigger schools. Special consideration should be in play for smaller schools as numbers will not add up as high – since bigger schools will have a bigger voting field.
