2013 VFA South Conference Report: Week 7

Wisconsin Rapids– The Menasha vs. Marshfield game in Week 7 of VFA-South conference play figured to be a dandy, and it did not disappoint.  On the road, Menasha pulled out a monumental victory over the Tigers and improved to 4-1 on the season.  The Bluejays are now in a tie for second place with Marshfield.  Both teams trail undefeated Oshkosh North in the standings.  Also, in an intense rivalry game, SPASH defeated Wisconsin Rapids. The Panthers, after starting out conference  play at 0-3, have earned two victories heading into the final two games of the season.

Week 7 Results

Menasha 35, Marshfield 27

The Tigers from Marshfield scored first returning the opening kickoff 97 yards for a TD. But Menasha fought back with unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter to build a 28-14 halftime lead. Bluejay running back Dylan Szews ran wild, rushing for 260 and 4 touchdowns on 35 carries. Tiger wideout Jeff Alison had five catches for 104 yards and a score to lead Marshfield.  Menasha secured a WIAA playoff spot with the win.

Oshkosh North 23, Neenah 14

Great battle at Titan Stadium. The Rockets returned an errant pass  38 yards in the fourth quarter to pull within 2 points at 16-14, but Nate Neveau connected with Cameron Parish on a 39 yard score to lead Oshkosh North to victory. Neveau went 12/20 for 169 yards and two scores to keep North unbeaten and alone on the top of the VFA-South leader board. Rockets’ workhorse Nathan VanderMause rushed for 98 yards on 19 carries in the loss.

Stevens Point 23, Wisconsin Rapids 0

The SPASH defense pitched a shut out on the road to beat the Red Raiders. The Panthers limited Rapids to just 68 yards rushing, and 58 yards passing. Rapids’ Jeremy Statz rushed for 35 yards on 20 tough carries. The Panthers can clinch a playoff spot next week.

Fond Du Lac 35, Oshkosh West 20

The Cardinals again showed they are a force to reckon with. Cardinal running back Justin Maratik rushed for 122 yards on 19 carries and thee touchdowns. West’s Sam Olejnik passed for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns. With the win the Cardinals need just one more victory to get in the playoffs.

Fond du Lac at Menasha, 7pm.

Marshfield at Stevens Point, 7pm.

Wisconsin Rapids at Neenah, 7pm.

Oshkosh North at Oshkosh West,  8:15pm.
