Colby wins at Gilman, finishes strong at Edgar Invite

Colby— Colby traveled to Gilman on Thursday, October 5th for the final Eastern Cloverbelt matchup of the season.  Colby would need to win in order to secure 2nd place in the Eastern Cloverbelt conference.  After a very hard fought match, Colby came away with the win 3-1 with scores of 25-15, 21-25, 26-24, 25-14.

Leaders for the night included Carley Elmhorst with 12 kills, 3 blocks and 22 digs; Ashley Strevler with 32 assists, 22 digs and 2 aces; Kiersten Weiland with 27 digs; Mary Streveler with 13 digs and 2 aces.

“The girls fought hard the whole match against a very good Gilman squad. I am extremely proud of them for keeping their heads held high all season,” said Colby Head Coach Brooke Ruge. “To go from last in conference last year to finishing second this year is very nice to see.”

Colby traveled to Edgar on Saturday, October 7th to take part in the Edgar Invitational tournament where they finished 5th out of 9 teams.
“We started off pool play against Abbotsford and lost 0-2, with scores of 22-25, 20-25. The second match was against Gillett, with Colby pulling out the win 2-0, with scores of 25-17, 25-11.  This placed us into the 2nd place bracket where we would face Rib Lake and Edgar to play for 4-6 places,” said Ruge.
Colby  lost 0-2 against Rib Lake with scores of 13-25, 18-25, and then faced Edgar, picking up a 2-0 win,     25-13, 25-14.
Leaders for the day included Carley Elmhorst with 19 kills, Ashley Streveler with 55 assists, and Kiersten Weiland with 41 digs.
“The girls had some great plays during the day, but just had some tough matchups to overcome,” Ruge shared.
