Valley Wrestling Roundup: Holiday Edition

Stevens Point- The holidays may have just recently wrapped up, but six of the Wisconsin Valley Conference’s seven teams were back in action last weekend in some of the state’s largest, and most prestigious tournaments.

D.C. Everest: Joseph Ziolkowski finished in second place at 145 pounds as the Evergreens finished in 12th place as a team in Division 1 at the Bi-State Classic hosted by Holmen High School.

Marshfield: The Tigers finished 14th out of 18 teams in Division 1 at the Bi-State Classic. Tristan Wilson (285) finished in fifth place individually. Kane Seubert (182) finished seventh.

Merrill: A perfect 7-0 dual record lifted the host Blue Jays to the team championship at Northern Exposure. Merrill downed Two Rivers, the No. 3 team in Division 2, 30-27 in the semi-finals, before they edged Octono Falls, the fourth-ranked team in Division 2, 31-29 in the championship match.

Stevens Point: The Panthers notched a fourth-place team finish in the 59-team On the Water Classic in Oshkosh. Billy Duffert (170) took third, while Mitch Mallek (182) took fourth to lead the charge for SPASH. Justin Pawlak finished fifth at 285 and Fritz Schierl took sixth at 126 pounds.

Wausau East: Nick Diny (126) took home second place in his weight class and helped the Lumberjacks finish 23rd in the 43-team Mid-States tournament in Whitewater. Brook Whitehead (138) finished in seventh place.

Wausau West: Colin Baine (126) and Joe Umlauf (138) each took home individual championships as the Warriors claimed top honors in Division 1 at the Bi-State Classic. West finished the tournament with seven place winners in total, including Bee Lor who finished third at 106 pounds.
