Rhinelander – The SPASH Panthers basketball team had to overcome a streaky effort from both their offense and defense to pull out a 54-51 overtime victory over the Rhinelander Hodags.  This kept their record unblemished at 6-0.

SPASH was down 18-8 by the end of the first period but exploded in the second period scoring 19 points while allowing only 8, putting them up at halftime 27-26.

With the way the first half went, it should come as no surprise that the second half followed in line.  The Panthers managed only 4 points in the third quarter while they gave up 14.  This set the stage for a furious comeback by SPASH.

In the fourth quarter, the Panthers scored 18 points while the Hodags could only muster 8, tying the game at the end of regulation with the score 49-49.

With the way the game was going, it would seem that SPASH was primed for another rough period.  However, they clamped down in overtime, allowing only 2 points to be scored while scoring 5 to pull out the OT victory.

SPASH only had four scorers on the night, but three of them put up double digit points.  They were led by Trevor Anderson with 20 points.

SPASH’s next game will be on December 14th at home against Wisconsin Rapids.

SPASH Scoring:

Anderson 20,  Hauser 14,  Sullivan 12,  Barnes 8
