Wisconsin Rapids– Another great season of basketball is about to begin in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Last season was D.C. Everest’s year, led by conference Player of the Year Luke Heller.
Last year’s standings:
1. D.C. Everest. 12-0(20-2). Biggest loss Luke Heller.
2. Marshfield 8-4(15-7). Biggest loss Elliot Ashbeck.
3. Wausau East 7-5(13-8). Biggest loss Mark McCormick.
4. Stevens Point 7-5(11-11). Biggest loss Jake Brabowski.
5. Wisconsin Rapids 4-8(7-15). Biggest loss Brady Goska.
6. Merrill 4-8(7-15). Biggest loss Jared Wardall.
7. Wausau West 0-12(3-19). Biggest loss Evan Mayer.
Pre-season rankings
Rankings were compiled using input from Wisconsin Valley Conference coaches.
1. Stevens Point. Eric Zelhofer ready to lead the Panthers.
2. D.C. Everest. Jared Gjertson, and Josh Nielson can ball.
3. Marshfield. Luke Zuiker, and Tanner Dennis Brown will be tough to handle.
4. Wisconsin Rapids. Regis Henke, and Zach Bassuener lead a very young squad.
5. Wausau East. Justin Strom, Cole Nelson, and Conrad Felten know how to shoot.
6. Merrill. David Jesperson is the man.
7. Wausau West. Jordan Huehnerfuss, Brad Utegaard, and Tyler Schertz are good athletes.
