Auburndale– The Pacelli Cardinals’ run for a state volleyball title came to an end at the hands of the Spencer Rockets on Thursday evening as the Rockets took a hard-fought match by the score of 3-1.  The Rockets advance to the sectional finals where they will face Oconto, who defeated Weyauwega Fremont.  The sectional final will take place in Marathon on Saturday.

The Cardinals, fresh off an upset victory over Marathon in the regional final, dropped the first set 25-18.  In the second set, Pacelli took an early lead over the Rockets, but Spencer fought back and eventually secured a 28-26 win.

With their backs against the wall and their season on the line, Pacelli clawed back in the third set, taking an early lead and then holding on for a 23-25 win.

However, Spencer hit its stride in the fourth set, scoring a 25-20 win to take the match.
