Stevens Point– The SPASH boys and girls cross country teams both took first place at the WIAA Division 1 sectional at Standing Rock Park on Saturday. It was a remarkable finish for both teams who will now be heading to state at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids as the clear favorites to come home with a state championship.
On the girls side, SPASH won the meet with a score of 42. The top five runners for the Panthers were Autumn Shurbert-Hetzel, who finished second overall with a time of 15:15. Following Shurbert-Hetzel were McKenzie Taggatz (15:35), Abbey Hyland (15:41), Hannah Beilke (15:50) and Sarah Rosenthal (15:57).
The SPASH boys asserted their dominance once again. SPASH was led by Michael Larson, who finished first overall with a time of 15:58. Sam Anderson finished third overall (16:22). Evan Hatton, Sam Sheibley and Isiah George rounded out the top five runners for SPASH.
Wausau East finished second among the boys teams, followed by Wausau West, DC Everest, Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids.
On the girls side, SPASH was followed by Wausau West, Wausau East, DC Everest and Marshfield.
