Pittsville– Going into Friday night’s Marawood rivalry game between the Pittsville Panthers and Auburndale Apaches, all the signs seemed to point to an Apaches win. After all, the Apaches were tied for second place in the Marawood and on a roll, while Pittsville had just come off a tough defeat the prior week and was without the services of star running back Eric Hahn.
However, Pittsville got a late touchdown reception from Jared Fox to lift the Panthers to a stunning 20-26 win over Auburndale.
Pittsville got two rushing touchdowns and 156 yards on the ground from Nathan Dupee. Dupee also scored on an 81 yard kick return.
Auburndale was led by Canyon Weiler, who rushed for 144 yards and one touchdown. Apaches’ quarterback Blake Anderson, who has been stellar so far this season, threw for one touchdown and ran for another.
With the win, Pittsville improves to 4-2, while Auburndale drops to 4-2. Both teams are now one game behind 5-1 Stratford for second place in the Marawood. Edgar remains undefeated at 6-0.
