Stevens Point– Pacelli Soccer does it again, beating Northland Lutheran 2-0, giving themselves the title of Regional Champions.
Tonight’s game was challenging, and Senior Captain Caleb Klein scored the first goal with about 10 minutes left in the first half.
Klein typically plays defense, so when he had the opportunity he took the ball down the field, shot, and scored.
When asked about his goal, Klein said, “I don’t usually have a chance, it was really nice to have the opportunity fall into my lap.”
As the first goal of the evening, he said, “It was awesome to be able to score an important goal in an important game.”
Senior Lucas Molski scored the second goal of the evening, with about 10 minutes left in the second half. This goal was a huge confidence booster for the team, who held on and won the game.
When asked about the success of the team, some of the seniors had many solid ideas of what they felt has brought them to where they are today.
“Really good team work, and sticking to our strategy,” said Senior Nathan Glinski.
Klein said, “I think it’s the base we built up from last year and the skill set we have.”
Their team has freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors playing throughout the games, which goes to show that talent does not come solely from age.
Senior Lucas Molski said about the team’s success, “Working together as a team and having a strong offense who is ready to take shots, but also a solid defense who is there when we do miss shots.”
Molski has played on offense this year, being one of Pacelli’s main goal scorers. When asked about his goal this evening and if it was his most important one yet, he said, ”They are all important, but I feel last night’s was most important because it sealed the goal for the win.”
Although Molski has a very impressive goal record for the season, he has also missed shots throughout games. He said, “It doesn’t really discourage me, but keeping the focus is most important, and keeping a strong mentality.”
Pacelli soccer has a game next Thursday in La Crosse, as the first sectionals game of the season. The Cardinals will have two sectionals games to conquer before having the opportunity to play the State tournament October 25th-27th.
