Wausau– Tonight, Pacelli boys soccer tied Newman 0-0 in overtime, earning a conference record of 17-0-2 for the 2012 regular season.
Their impressive record wasn’t the only highlight of the evening. For the first time in history, Pacelli soccer won the title of conference champions.
The game proved to be very difficult, with both teams not willing to give up the fight or let a single goal in.
The crowd was on the edge of their seat the entire game in Wausau, constantly cheering on and encouraging their team. Both Pacelli and Newman played incredibly well, having countless impressive plays.
Although Pacelli couldn’t bring home a win tonight they gladly accepted their conference title.
Assistant Coach Jarrod Schlichter said, “It feels great. This hasn’t been achieved before.”
Both the athletes in the field and fans in the bleachers were ecstatic to the news that Pacelli soccer was, in fact, the Conference Champs this year.
“We worked hard all season and we are ready for playoffs. We are going to do what we have been doing for next weeks games,” said Schlichter.
With playoffs next Tuesday, the Cardinals are more focused than ever to succeed. Today they can go to bed proud, calling themselves the Mid-State Conference Champions. The Cardinals now focus in on the next goal: a state championship.
