Stevens Point–Pacelli Soccer is on fire. This evening, the Cardinals crushed Wisconsin Valley Lutheran 3-1 in their first regional playoff game.
Colin Jamison scored the first goal of the night and Henry Petersen scored the second. Both goals were scored within twenty minutes of the first half.
“It was great and really exciting,” Petersen said of scoring his goal during this playoff game.
Thirty minutes in, Jamison scored an impressive goal, making it the third goal of the evening for Pacelli.
Chilly weather and a wet field made for unfavorable playing conditions, but both teams put up a great fight.
Wisconsin Valley Lutheran scored just three minutes into the second half. Pacelli battled on and refused to let another goal in.
The Cardinals offense and defense did a great job during the last twenty minutes of play, keeping the ball near Wisconsin Valley Lutheran’s net.
“We worked the ball to the outsides,” Senior Captain Caleb Klein said of the team’s success tonight.
Pacelli will play their second regional game this Thursday, with sectionals hopefully following next week.
Tonight’s win adds on one more to Pacelli’s incredible season record. This team is playing extremely well, and they will have to prove themselves these next three games to show that they deserve to play at State.
