Marathon City– The #6 seeded Pacelli Cardinals volleyball team went into battle with #2 seeded Marathon on Saturday night in the WIAA Regional Final. The Cardinals came out victorious with an impressive 3-0 win to advance to the sectional semifinals where they will square off against Spencer.
Pacelli won by the following scores: 25-22,25-20,25-23.
Colleen Leary had 30 assists and 3 solo blocks.
Kaisa Wojciehoski had 12 kills and 9 digs. Jordyn Shields led the team with 13 kills and 14 digs.
Katie Olson had 3 solo blocks and Marisa Rice had 5 aces.
“The girls really played as a team tonight and stuck together when we were down,” said Pacelli head coach Ray Gutowski. “Our back row keep us in the game by taking some really hard hits and getting up good passes so our offense could run. We had some key blocks from our middles that ended their rallys and our outsides just keep pounding the ball. All three matches were close and could of went either way, I think our girls just wanted it more. We look forward to another tough match on Thursday against Spencer.”
Spencer earned a 3-2 victory over #1 seeded Athens. The Pacelli vs. Spencer match up will take place in Auburndale on October 25.
