Stevens Point– The CWS Spotlight turned the high beam toward Pacelli junior Payton Hintz. Hintz is a contributor on the Cardinals’ volleyball team, which has been overpowering opponents all season long.
CWS: What are some of the classes you’re taking at Pacelli this year?
Hintz: AP US Government, creative writing, church history, algebra 2, French 2, psychology 1, and ecology.
CWS: Who is your favorite teacher and why is he/she your favorite?
Hintz: I’d have to say my psychology teacher Mr. Gehrman because he’s really, really nice and he knows his stuff. I just really like him.
CWS: What are your plans for your post-Pacelli life?
Hintz: I was really thinking about going into occupational therapy or maybe teaching.
CWS: What is the most exciting sports contest you have ever been a part of?
Hintz: That would probably have been this year at the national tournament for our softball team (Point Fastpitch U-16). We ended up taking second place in Columbus, Wisconsin this year. That was really exciting.
CWS: What is something about you that people might not know or that might surprise people about you?
Hintz: I love history. I know a lot of people are like, ‘Oh, I don’t like history.’ But I really love it. I love the Civil War and that time period.
CWS: What is your favorite sport to play and why?
Hintz: It really depends on the season. It changes during volleyball season, basketball season and softball season. Pretty much I love all of them.
CWS: Who is someone in your life who has inspired you? How has this person inspired you?
Hintz: I’d have to say my dad. No matter what happens, he always says, ‘Just keep working hard and everything is going to turn out okay.’ Without his encouragement, I don’t think I would have made it to where I am today.
CWS: What is the best thing about being a student athlete at Pacelli?
Hintz: I like the school spirit. A lot of schools don’t have a whole bunch of fans who really get into a sport. At our home volleyball games, we always have a huge group of students come and dress up and cheer, and I really like that.
CWS: If you could meet anyone in history, who would it be? Why?
Hintz: It would probably be Abraham Lincoln. He is my favorite person in history. I would really want to talk to him because of everything he did like getting rid of slavery, doing things that no one else had the courage to do.
CWS: Finally, pancakes or waffles?
Hintz: I prefer pancakes, as long as they have peanut butter on them.
