Wisconsin Rapids–Wisconsin Badger Vince Biegel took a moment of his valuable time to speak with CWS about his current situation at the University. For those of you who might not remember, the Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School Red Raider and 2011 Wisconsin Defensive Player of the Year currently is a freshman linebacker/pass rush specialist at Wisconsin.
CWS: How is the transition from high school football to college football going?
Vince: The transition is going great. I am physically doing well. The most challenging part has been the mental aspect.
CWS: What would you say has been your biggest challenge as your prepare for the season?
Vince: Learning a new scheme, new terminology. Understanding the play book so that I can perform at my best.
CWS: Has it been difficult going from senior captain and player of the year to a freshman trying to make the team?
Vince: Definitely. The game is way more mental. You go from being “the guy” to a measley freshman. But you know it going in, and you prepare yourself for it. But the most important thing to me is earning the respect of your teammates.
CWS: Compare the speed of the high school game to the college game.
Vince: Suprisingly it was not that much faster. Of course they are bigger and faster, but the US Army game really helped me with the transition.
CWS: You injured your foot recently, are you back to 100% yet?
Vince: I suffered a stress fracture in my foot. I will be out another week. But I am ready to get back at it and work on my game, and the foot is getting stronger.
CWS: What are Vince Biegel’s goals this season?
Vince: To get better each day. To work hard at getting bigger and faster. Most importantly, to be a good teammate.
CWS: What is the goal at UW this season?
Vince: The same goal as it is every year, and that is to play it one game at a time. Do not worry about who is on the schedule, but to prepare for your next opponent, and make it to the Rose Bowl.
CWS: What advice would you give to your former teammates at Lincoln?
Vince: Honestly, to tell my guys to enjoy this season. Every minute of it. Take it all in. You play with most of these guys since the 3rd grade. This might be the last time you play with them, and it might be the last time you play at all. Have no regrets, play your best, and leave it all on the field.
Vince, even though he was injured, will not be red shirted this season. Look for #47 at Camp Randall, and cheer him on. Want to do something very cool? Gooogle UW 2012 roster. First option is ESPN’s. Half way down the page is #47 from Wisconsin Rapids.
