Stevens Point– The SPASH girls varisty took second at the Manitiwoc meet this past weekend, narrowly beating Appleton North by a 1 point margin, 108 to 109. Green Bay Preble won the varsity with a score of 72.
Leading for the Panthers was Hannah Beilke who came in 7th followed closely by Autum Shubert-Hetzel who came in 12th. Mackenzi Taggatz, Sarah Rosenthal and Abbey Hyland completed the scoring for the Panthers.
Overall, SPASH head coach Olson thought the team performed well.
“We had hoped to give Preble a little better run for their money,” said Olson. “They are currently ranked 5th and we are 12th. But it seemed that we never got involved in a matchup with them. Generally, we ran some pretty good times but we need to focus more on our competition than on our pace if we are going to reach our potential as a team. Sarah Rosenthal had her best race of the season and I look forward to seeing her build off of this race in the weeks ahead.”
The JV and junior high both won their divisions. The junior high girls had a perfect score of 15 taking 9 of the top 10 spots. Leading the way was Erica Van Helden for the JH team. The JV team did well against the tough Green Bay Preble team scoring 32 with their top 5 runners in the top 11 places. Leading the way for the Panthers with a strong showing was Jamie Clemens.
The Panters resume competition at the Stoughton meet this coming weekend.
Meanwhile, the SPASH boys cross country team took first place at the Manty Invite.
Michael Larson paced SPASH with a 16:14 time (4th place), followed by Sam Anderson’s 16:16 (5th place) Evan Hatton’s 16:36 (8th place) and Sam Sheibley’s 16:44 (10th place).
As a team, SPASH edged out Sheboygan North and Green Bay Preble to take first place.
