Spencer– The Pittsville Panthers dropped a non-conference tilt to the Spencer Columbus Rockets on Friday night, 31-29. The Rockets rushed the ball 64 times for 357 yards, while Pittsville was only able to muster 27 yards on the ground.
Charlie Mayeux led the Rockets’ rushing attack with 175 yards and three touchdowns.
Pittsville, without the services of standout running back Eric Hahn, who was injured during the game, leaned on the arm of quarterback David Sojka.
Sojka passed for over 200 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Panthers.
Spencer Columbus got on the board first when Derrick Green caught a touchdown pass from Joe Meyers. Mayeux followed that with a second quarter touchdown run to put the Rockets up by two scores.
Pittsville answered with a Nathan Dupee touchdown reception, but Mayeaux scored another touchdown in the second quarter.
Pittsville’s Sawyer Ladick scored two touchdowns in the third quarter. Ladick caught six passes for 125 yards for Pittsville.
However, Pittsville was unable to hold off the Rockets’ potent running attack.
With the loss, Pittsville drops to 3-3 on the season.
