Stevens Point– It took five sets for them to do it, but the Wittenberg-Birnamwood volleyball upset Pacelli on Thursday night. Pacelli started off strong winning the first two sets of the contest by identical 25-15 scores. However, Wittenberg-Birnamwood rebounded to claim the final three sets.
Colleen Leary led Pacelli with 33 assists. Jordyn Shields had 16 kills while Kasia Wojciehoski added 12. Olivia Migas led the team with 8 aces and 20 digs. Brooke Filtz had 4 blocks and Payton Hintz had 3.
“The girls came out strong and played great the first two sets,” said Pacelli coach Ray Gutowski. ”We took their best shot and really executed on our side. After dropping the 3rd set we had trouble getting back on track the 4th set. In the 5th set we fought hard right to the end, the girls showed a lot of heart.”
Pacelli will face CWC-8 foe Iola on Tuesday.
