Wisconsin Rapids– Under pressure to improve and win games, the Rapids volleyball team lost in their first conference game against Marshfield.
This tough loss was a wake up call for the girls, who didn’t push passed 20 points in any set.
The first set started out strong for Rapids when the girls played smart volleyball and kept the score close for the first five points. After that, Marshfield took over and dominated the set, only allowing Rapids to score 10 points.
The second set wasn’t much better for Rapids, as they managed to score 12.
In the third set, the intensity was turned up. Rapids found a groove and went on a small run. However, unable to catch up to Marshfield’s lead, Rapids lost, scoring 18 points.
Shelby Steinke gets credit for most kills with 5. Lexi Johnson made a difference in the back row with 9 digs on the night, and Ashley Muhlencamp and Caitlyn Nueman tied for most assists, each having 5.
Coach Wendtland’s thoughts of how the game went was not how he had planned them, saying, “I thought we fought hard in the 3rd set but was not impressed with our lack of focus and energy but we were very scrappy, (meaning we made very good plays by making something out of nothing), and that frustrated Marshfield. I’m ready to put this behind us and play much better volleyball starting Saturday.”
