Auburndale– The Auburndale Apaches went into their homecoming match up against Marawood opponent Phillips as heavy favorites, and they didn’t disappoint the home crowd, coming away with a 47-12 win. With the win, Auburndale improves to 5-1 overall and keeps the pressure up on undefeated Edgar, who sits atop the Marawood standings.
Auburndale quarterback Blake Anderson continued his hot streak completing 13-15 passes for 188 and 4 touchdowns. Austin Hawkins caught 4 passes for 71 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Isaac Castellano caught 6 passes for 89 yards and 1 touchdown.
Canyon Weiler rushed 13 times for 97 yards to lead the Apaches’ running attack. Wyatt Weiler rushed 3 times for 76 yards and had 1 touchdown. Trevin Oertel had 2 carries for 16 yards and a touchdown, and Jake Lewis had 9 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown.
The offense was sparkling again this week, making big play after big play while the National Guard fired the cannon after every score.
“Give credit to Phillips as they battled all night with only 17 kids suited up,” said Auburndale head coach Josh Nagel.
Phillips did not score against the starting Apache Defense. The Apache Defense was strong once again led by Justin Lewis and Austin Hawkins.
