Stevens Point–Bucks and Bulls Archery, formerly located in Plover, has a new location and new ownership. Located in the old Shopko Plaza building by the Pool People, when you walk into the store, you know you are in a new place with a new attitude.
Gary Hintz is the new owner and in talking with him you will find out right away that he is a people person. A certified archery instructor, Gary has the walls in the store adorned with bucks that he has shot with archery gear. Taking his passion from the woods to the store was an easy transition. Gary has two full time employees, James Wiedmeyer and Daniel Parker. Both guys are in their twenties and are as passionate about archery as anyone. They want to set themselves apart by providing no-nonsense customer service to archers all the way from novice to the advanced. What I immediately noticed was finally being in a bow shop in the area where the employees had time for me– it wasn’t just about them.
They will be specializing in Mathews, Hoyt and G5/Prime bows and equipment. If they do not have it they will try and find it for you. For instance, Austin wanted to purchase some Luminox this year, and his arrows did not quite fit the nocks. Daniel made a quick call to the company right there on the spot and had an answer before we left, making us completely satisfied.
The store has several lanes of target shooting for $5 an hour and will soon have a video archery room. Leagues will be forming for both once the bow season ends. Daniel and James would like to focus in on what the community is asking for in regards to league types. They are looking at a father/son league, a women’s night and school leagues besides the normal winter leagues that typical places provide.
With set hours that you can finally rely on, it is an easy decision to stay local in getting bow work done. Their hours are Monday through Friday 11-7, on Saturdays they are open from 11-4 and Sundays are 12-4.
Stop in and meet the gang, check out what they have and look forward to what they will be providing including potential big buck contests and trail camera photo contests.
Until next time,
Shoot straight
