Marathon– Marathon’s powerful offense was only able to find the end zone once against a tough Pittsville defense, but that was all they needed to pull out a grinder in the Marawood opener in Marathon on Friday night. The final score of the contest was 7-0.
Marathon’s defense came out firing on all cylinders, stopping the Panthers with a 3-and-out on Pittsville’s first possession, followed by a blocked punt.
Pittsville’s defense answered as Nathan Potter recorded a big sack of Marathon quarterback Collin Seubert.
Seubert scored with 44 seconds left in the first half on a keeper to give Marathon its only score of the game.
Pittsville had a chance in the fourth quarter when the Raiders fumbled while attempting to run out the clock, but the Raiders defense held fast and time ran out on the Panthers.
