5:57pm
SPASH’s season is ended by Germantown as they lose 3-2.
5:54pm
SPASH with runners on second and third. Two outs. Taylor Smola at the plate. Inning started out with consecutive singles by Kurszewski and Fields.
5:45pm
Germantown comes back with a Belcher RBI double to take a 3-2 lead. SPASH down to last three outs. We’re going to the seventh inning.
5:37pm
SPASH makes some noise. Soik leads off with a single to lead off the inning, followed by a ringing double to the gap in right center by Taylor Smola. The ball bounced over the fence, which turned out to be an unlucky break for SPASH, preventing them from scoring a run. Leopold then triples with two outs, a liner to center to give SPASH new life. Leopold has been the star of the game so far for SPASH. Score tied 2-2.
5:24pm
Leopold makes another great play to end the inning, diving to stab a grounder at third. Leopold’s strong throw ended the inning after the Warhawks’ Renard doubled with two outs. Score remains 2-0 Germantown. SPASH with 6 outs to make something happen. Going to top of sixth.
5:15pm
Kurszewski just misses a home run for SPASH that stayed up in the wind for a bit too long and carried foul to left field. Lass is thrown out on a very close play at first on an infield grounder. Score remains 2-0 with Germantown coming up in the bottom of the inning. SPASH not getting good swings against Renard– a lot of infield dribblers. Lange is pitching well to this point.
5:10pm
Lange with a clean inning, Germantown goes down in order. SPASH has been pretty solid defensively. Third baseman Melanie Leopold has made a couple of nice plays. Kurszewski to lead off for SPASH in the top of the fifth. Score remains 2-0.
5:06pm
SPASH strands one runner in top of fourth. Germantown’s pitcher Renard isn’t throwing exceptionally hard, but she is the kind of pitcher SPASH has struggled with all year. She’s moving her pitches around well and keeping SPASH batters on their toes. SPASH only has two hits to Germantowns 5. Score remains 2-0 Germantown.
4:58pm
Germantown’s Witzlib with a two run double to give Germantown a 2-0 lead in the third. SPASH coming up in the fourth with Hauser leading off.
4:50pm
Nothing for SPASH in the top of the third. Score still 0-0. Germantown due up in the bottom half of the inning.
4:43pm
Lange works around a leadoff single. End of two, score remains 0-0.
4:38pm
Roth singles and steals second. Shelby Fields is retired on a very close play at first on an infield grounder. Score remains 0-0.
4:31pm
Nothing doing for Germantown in the first inning. Lange records one strikeout. Score: SPASH 0, Germantown 0. To the second we go.
4:20pm
Top of the inning, SPASH gets two base runners, Shuda and Smola; both stranded as Woyak strikes out for final out of inning.
4:16pm
Folks, we are underway. Carly Lass to lead off for SPASH. SPASH will be the visitors in this contest. Lauren Renard pitching for Germantown.
4:02pm
SPASH warming up right now. We should have game action in fifteen minutes or so.
3:36pm
Sun Prairie hammered Franklin 10-0. The Cardinals made one of the most amazing plays you are ever likely to see in your life. On a pop fly, the ball bounced off the shortstop, the left fielder and then was caught by a diving third baseman. Amazing.
SPASH and Germantown to warm up and then we’ll have some softball.
3:11pm
Just a quick update… Sun Prairie has taken a commanding lead over Franklin. 7-0 in the fifth inning.
Folks we’re about an hour away from game action here at Goodman Diamond in Madison Wisconsin where the SPASH Panthers will be taking on the Germantown Warhawks. Some good softball action already today with Chippewa Falls winning and Appleton East winning a big game over Westosha Central. As of 2:14pm, Sun Prairie is battling Franklin.
Stay tuned for updates. SPASH’s game time is scheduled for 3:30pm, though it might be later than that due to the extra inning affair between Appleton East and Westosha.
