Hayden Biegel chooses UW-Madison.
Wisconsin Rapids–I first saw Hayden Biegel when he was a skinny, tall sophomore working out with the varsity squad two years ago for the Red Raiders. I was there to cover his brother Vince, who was gaining state wide attention as a player highly recruited by the U of W. I thought Hayden was better suited for the game of basketball. Boy was I wrong! From weighing roughly 160 that first season, to roughly 195 last season, Hayden is now a physically powerful 250 pounds. I would hate to get the assignment to beat his blocks on Friday night’s.
CWS: What schools recruited you?
Hayden: North Dakota, Illinois, Michigan State, Iowa, Iowa State, and of course UW.
CWS: Why UW?
Hayden: It is a great school with a tremendous academic and sports curriculum.
CWS: Did you feel any pressure from your parents on which school to attend?
Hayden: Ha, just my Mom, she wanted me close to home.
CWS: What position do you think you will play at UW?
Hayden: O-line is where they are projecting me. I want to be an outside tackle. I need to work of my pass protection to get where I want to be.
CWS: Did playing with your brother factor in your decision?
Hayden: Yes. We have been playing together since we were in the Raptor program. Vince make me work harder.
“We moved Hayden to the O-line, and he just exploded. He is a natural at his position as he found his spot. Hayden has the skills to do play at any level,” said coach Tony Biolo.
“I am excited about having Hayden at UW. It is exciting for me, Hayden, and our entire family,” said Vince Biegel.
CWS wishes Hayden all the best, and we will continue to watch him develop as one of the Big Ten’s brightest. One thing that stood out last season as a fan, and as a reporter, was Hayden’s ability to finish plays, and to finish them aggressively.
