Rapids hockey loses a tough one.

Wisconsin Rapids–The Lady Red Raider basketball team ran out of gas against the Eau Claire North Huskies Tuesday night falling 55-47. It was a tight see saw game until late in the fourth quarter when the Huskies just out rebounded the Red Raiders.

“Rebounding killed us. We need to box out better,” said Hailee Frank.

The Huskies led 23-19 at half, and 35-33 after three. Rapids took a late lead in the fourth quarter 41-40 on a Shelby Steinke layup, but it was all Huskies after that. Huskie center Kayonna Lee pumped in 17 second half points to lead the way after scoring only 1 point in the first half.

“I motivated myself to drive to the hoop, and take over the game,” said Lee

Liz Morrison was the star for the Red Raiders keeping the game close with 9 second half points, but Rapids could just not solve the Huskies rebounding this night falling 55-47. Rapids can play spoiler Thursday night against Taylor Varsho and the Marshfield Tigers who need the win to clinch a tie for the Wisconsin Valley Conference Championship.

Both Red Raider hockey teams lost Tuesday night ending their ride in the WIAA playoff’s. The boys playing before a pumped home crowd gave up 2 goals in the final minute and a half of regulation to force overtime, and lost 5-4 in the extra period to the Bangor/Sparta/West Salem Vipers. Red Raider Zach Campbell made it 3-2, and Luc Kreuser made it 4-2 Rapids, and it looked like the Red Raiders would have enough momentum to win the game. But Viper defenseman Hunter Meyer pinched in and scored with just over two minutes to play to make it 4-3 Rapids. A tripping penalty put the Red Raiders on the power play and the game looked over until Viper Taylor Trapp scored a short handed goal to tie it up, and send the game into overtime. Rapids opened the extra period on the power play, and just could not take advantage. Seconds later Viper Erik Burdick scored the game winner on a rebound, and just like that, in less than 3 minutes the Red Raider season was over. It was another good season for coach Pat McDonald, his staff, and the entire team. The Boys can hang their heads high.

The lady Red Panthers co-op team from Point and Rapids were shutout 2-0 by the Northland Pines Eagles. It was a great season by the Red Panthers who showed just how tough girls hockey can be.

Do not count Brady Quinn as a fellow Tebow fan. In an interview with yahoo sports Brady criticizes Tim Tebow by calling him lucky, and jabs Tebow for his prayer in front of camera’s. I am a big Notre Dame fan, and I usually give my loyalty to its alumni. But I take great issue with Quinn for calling out a teammate. I take even greater issue for calling out his praying in front of a camera. Even if the praying in front of camera’s does not seem sincere, I am glad someone is doing it. Brady Quinn your table is not ready, and will not be ready anytime soon. Quinn later on twitter tried to back pedal some, saying Tebow was a great teammate, and offering an apology to anyone and everyone. Cats out of the bag Brady.

The Cubs and Red Sox have agreed to compensation for “Theo.” The Cubs will send pitcher Chris Carpenter and a player to be named later to the Red Sox for the hiring of GM Theo Epstein, and a player to be named later. Bud Selig did not have to get involved. Carpenter posted a 2.79 era in 10 appearances for the Cubs last season, and is considered a top prospect, even though he is 26 years old.

The Blowhards at the BCS met yesterday to discuss the future of the BCS system. There are some 50 separate proposals offered by college big wigs, and it is expected that today they(BCS) would just be whittling it down to a few select ideas. The Big Ten plus one proposal most likely will not fly. The southern teams, especially the teams from the SEC, are reported to reject the idea. The SEC has won 6  consecutive titles and will most certainly block any title game proposal that would be played in bad weather.  Stay tuned, I am sure they(the BCS) will not get this right.

Tony LaRussa is mulling over the idea to be an analyst for the MLB network. Say what you want about Tony, but I would love to hear the insight he would offer on today’s players.

The Wisconsin State Assembly has declared December 12th, of 2012,  as Aaron Rodgers day. I will get hammered for this but cmon, can we not focus on jobs, and the economy? If you feel the need to boost the ego of a football player how about calling it Marcus Senn day, or pick a teacher/coach who works 150 hours in the summer like Tony Biolo? Grrrr.

Still no word on Ryan Braun’s appeal. Braun ducked out of the Brewers fanfest, but will not be able to duck out when spring training begins. A lot of people, not just Brewer fans are hoping that Braun wins. For a good guy like Braun to get suspended would only further enhance most fans beliefs that the players are still juicing.
