A big fifth inning by the Norsemen sinks Pittsville.

Coon Valley– The Pittsville Panthers baseball team fell to the Westby Norsemen by the final score of 4-6 on Tuesday evening.  Westby’s standout pitcher Jedd Sebion struck out eight batters and gave up three earned runs– while going 2-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs– to lead the Norsemen.  Pittsville got two hits apiece from Jordan Rayburn and Chris Downs, but were unable to overcome a five-run fifth inning by Westby, which sealed the victory for the Norsemen.

Pittsville took control early in the game, with Rayburn and Chris Downs scoring on a Sawyer Ladick single in the third inning.  Rayburn scored again in the top of the fifth to put Pittsville up by the score of 3-0.

However, Westby roared back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs on a Sebion double.  Sebion later scored to cap the five-run fifth for the Norsemen, who would hold onto the lead for the rest of the game.

Panthers’ starting pitcher Gavin Hautala faced 23 batters, giving up five earned runs on seven hits.  Chris Downs came on in relief, giving up one unearned run on three hits.  Westby’s Sebion pitched a complete game to pick up the win.

Pittsville finishes the season with a 18-6 record.
